Crete 1 - the flight and the first day at Mythos Palace

The Flight:

At the airport we had a little dinner at 'Café Melange' near the C-Gates just because we were not sure if we would get something to eat during the flight or not.

When boarding started we had some trouble because we forget about the 100ml rule for liquids on board. Just because governments are worried about terrorism you can only take liquids in 100ml units in a seethrough bag. But you can take up to 10 units on board so you would have 1 liter of liquids per person on board the plan, and they really thingk that will help against terrorism??? I am sure that terrorist seldom hijack a plane by only one person and with that reglement they have pretty sure enough stuff on board to build a bomb or to poison something or so.
By the way the airline dispenses metal cutlery on the flight.
So back to the story: we had to go back to the check-in and send the things with the normal luggage and then hurry back to the gate. This time they found a deo spray we forgot and they hadn't seen at the first time in Julia's bag that had 250ml filling. Of course we didn't go back to check-in this time and left it at the security check.

When we got on the plane there was just chaos with the seats.
Some people - I am sure it was caused by families who wanted to sit together - had set obviously not on the right places and so everyone who got on now had to find another seat.
It was just a flight of about 2h 30min and so I didn't really mind having to sit beside strangers.

The plane (Boeing 737-700, Maria Callas) took off just a few minutes behind schedule.
During the flight we really got a nice dinner. We could choose between vegetarian pasta and sliced pork. We both took the pasta and it was very good.

The only thing on board that didn’t work was the headset for the entertainment system on some seats. But who cares.

At about 01:15 am we landet at the airport of Chania.
We got the luggage and went to the bus to the hotel.
Arrival at the Mythos Palace was at about 02:30 am.

The Hotel:

All I can say about the hotel is WOW!!!

It's my first time to a five star hotel and I love it!

The staff is very nice and until today there are not too many guests.

Our room is big and nice furnished. Even the balcony is big enough to be used (that's not always the case).
From the balcony we have a nice view to the sea on one side, the lights of Georgioupolis and the villages around it at night in the front and the beautifull mountains on the other side.

Everything is very clean and tidy.

The Beach:

The beach is like the rest of the resort clean. The sand is fine - just a little gravel on the first steps into the sea - and there is a lot of space for everyone. In the small river that runs to the sea you could also see turtles.
You could walk to the village of Georgioupolis all along the beach.
There are no private beaches in Greece so you can go wherever you want to.

The first day:

After a few hours sleep we went to the restaurant for breakfast. For breakfast and dinner it was always buffet with a wide range of lots of good things.
The only thing at breakfast was that the orange and the grapefruit juices from the machine were much too sweet. But the greek coffee is excellent.

After breakfast we had the meeting with our tourist guide.
She told us a lot about the offered trips we could make. Jeep Safari, Samaria gorge, boat trip to Santorini, and lots more.

We decided to book just 2 excursion because they are not what I would call inexpensive. ;-)
The trips 'around Chania' and to the 'island of Santorini' were our choices.
Together for a price of 135 Euros per person.

Julia wanted to rent a car for a few days but I had to think about it first. The traffic here differs a bit from the traffic at home.

After the meeting we went to the beach and just relaxed for the rest of the day.

In the evening there would have been a magican but we were to tired and the best places were already taken.
